Our SUP ambassadors explain the different types of SUP

Stand up paddling boards are among the most popular sports items, which are currently experiencing a real boom. It is therefore not surprising that the selection of different SUP types is virtually endless. To help you keep track, our SUP ambassadors present the different boards and explain which one meets your needs. Now that you know the theory of what SUP is all about, all you need is the right SUP board for you. Before Tanja, Malte & Christoph introduce the different SUP types, you should ask yourself a few questions about how you will use your new SUP board.

It is advisable to choose your new board based on your ability. From beginners to professionals, the boards are tailored to a wide range of levels and abilities. You should also ask yourself how you want to use the board: Do you want to spend a relaxing evening on the water after work or go on longer day trips? Maybe you want to use the board for other sports such as kayaking or windsurfing, in which case you should take a close look at the accessories. Once you have answered these questions, it should be easy for you to choose your board from the following SUP types:

The SUP “Allround Board” for beginners

The Hydro-Force™ White Cap 2.0 is the ideal all-round board. Perfect for SUP beginners, you can use this board for many different activities: whether for leisurely tours or for unusual sports on the SUP board such as yoga, the special shape means that there are no limits to the range of applications. “Both the stern and the bow are rounded, offering good handling and plenty of stability,” says Tanja. The board is also particularly wide to prevent the board from tipping over quickly.

The SUP “(Fast) Touring Board” for advanced users

“In general, touring boards are narrower and longer than all-round boards,” explains Malte. The pointed stern and bow ensure particularly low water resistance, so that you can move faster and your board stays on track as well as possible. The Fast Touring Boards are even more pointed at the front to pick up even more speed. This makes it particularly easy for you to cover a lot of distance with this type of board.

The SUP “River Board” for pros

Have you already gained a lot of experience in stand up paddling and are you ready for an adventure? Then the river board is perfect for you. These short and wide boards are particularly maneuverable, but also offer little space due to their shape. “You should therefore be a little more experienced if you are going on a white water tour with a river board,” advises Christoph. Multiple fins on the bottom of the SUP also ensure that you can keep the board perfectly in line and can steer just as well when you want to avoid an obstacle. We have all 3 SUP types in our official Bestway® store. Just take a look around and find the SUP board that's right for you.
